these last few weeks have been fucking murder at Graham.
News flash: we have about half of the new students we need enrolled for next year when at this time last year we had an extensive waiting list... BUT we are still opening a third school, when people are petrified of staying in the Charter School system. The staff is spread so thin that most people can barely handle two schools, and now we are moving onto a middle school that will be starting off with two grades.
Tuesday and Thursday of last week and Tuesday and Thursday of this week, the students have done nothing but watch movies while a small amount does map testing. We have made ourselves into babysitters.
The senior class has done very little with their walkabouts. Most of them have been working retail and atleast two or three of the seniors were literally removed/expelled from their sites for shit talking on the internet... they aren't much nicer to us.
Also, we are graduating a boy who just asked me how to spell the word "garden."
Graham has always been a crazy whirlwind, but I feel like it's starting to make a lot A LOT of reckless decisions. When I first came as a student there was a lot of dead time at the beginning of the school year or the end, but that shit slips by when you are a young school within it's first five years. We have moved past those mistakes, but now it seems as though we are slipping back into them.
Meh. I will miss it, but in a way this is a great relief to leave before thigns get worse. Charter'schools futures are looking pretty grim, and I can sense the seems beginning to split here.
Oh yah, I decided not to talk about my leaving with the staff or students... but I found out after reading the notes from the staff meeting taht I missed that Evan made the announcement for me. No one asked me if I would like this information shared or even if I would like to do it myself. It was sucky. It made that day sucky. I had a hard time not crying as the staff kept approaching me to talk about the one thing I was trying to block from my mind.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH
ontop of it all, the students are fucking crazy the last few days before summer. Fucking nuts, bro.

A woman called TGS to complain that our students walk down the middle of Glenmont road (on their way to the park for a 6th period class) and do not move for cars. She said that she was a parent at Clintonville Academy and had called in before to complain and hadn't heard anything. I asked her to wait while I try and get ahold of an administrator.
I had her on hold for a bit and then picked up the phone again to let her know that Lindsay would have to return her call. She said "I assume it will be quickly?" and I told her that it is the end of our school day and she is currently in a meeting and that she was busy. She replied, "Yah we're all busy" under her breath and then gave me her information.
After taking it I said, "and you are a parent from Clintonville Academy?" And she snapped "it doesn't matter if I am a parent there."
Knowing that my days at TGS are numbered has put me on edge, and I was sick of her being rude to me. Her last comment made me snap and I said "You do not have to be rude to me! I am trying to help you! You said that you were a parent at Clintonville Academy earlier so I assumed it was because you thought it was important!" She replied, "Well it is important!" And I said, "you just told me that it wasn't! YOu do not have to be rude to me, I am just trying to help you" again. She said that she was sorry that I thought she was being rude to her, and I replied that I understood her frustration and I would make sure that Lindsay got back to her.
I think I told her to have a nice day. ____________________________________________________
A teacher had to ask a parent to stop smoking in the SCHOOLS PARKING LOT and they got mad. GOOOD, fuck everybody.

I am going to start giving violin lessons-- I'm not sure how much it will be, I have to see what other folks charge and then go a little cheaper than that. I think the standard is $50.00 a lesson, so I will be around $30 or $40.
Anyone interested?

I got a stupid e-mail from stupid OSU about the stupid change they are going to make from quarters to stupid fucking semesters.
The survey asked questions regarding how they should handle finals week. They asked how long of a grace period they think there should be between the last day of class and the exam, I answered a week. They also asked what my additional comments are and I wrote, "I think that changing to semesters is a terrible idea"

sigh, this comment is really refreshing
"What a hot bed, pun intended, subject! No, it's not about religion, it's about choosing to pee sitting down or standing up, (yep, women can do that). What our author, Mr. Scott P. is saying is that this could be a huge boon to the economy. That this issue shouldn't be an issue -- making it one is as stupid as our forefathers burning witches because the poor woman refused to drown and tried to swim, saying women and blacks are too dumb to vote, learn to read, own property, etc. We know that all sorts of people make contributions to quality of life. Thus we know that assumptions and stereotypes are wrong. I am all for family values, marriage, monogomy. I am a reverend, a theologian, a real person in the real world, and I see that could happen with GLBT as easily as "the rest of us". In some ways, maybe better, the devotion in searching for that child taken into account. Think of it! Kids in real homes with two loving parents, I really don't think the KIDS are going to care! They will be thrilled to have a home, stability, two people who live for them. To give GLBT the right to marry, and adopt, should have never been an issue. They shouldn't have to ask anyone different than I had to. This is prejudiced, bigoted, and wrong. Who I sleep with is not an issue to others, so, by default, whom others love is not an issue to me. To the miserables who think love is wrong-- The right for you to swing your fist, ends where my nose begins. "
Thank you Trina!
Look everybody! It's super easy, fun and totally possible to accept people who are different from you... AND still be invested in Christian morals.
